Smells Like Victory

Everytime I see this patch, I think of APOCALPYSE NOW.
And specifically Col. Kilgore. You know, “I love the smell of napalm in the morning. It smells like VICTORY.”
And that badass scene where the helicopters come in blasting “Ride Of The Valkyries.” Probably the best damn combat scene in any movie made. (Yeah, yeah, not the most realistic, maybe – but I said BEST DAMN, not MOST REALISTIC.)
It’s too bad you can’t go swooping in on attacks blasting something to freak the Taliban out. I’m pretty sure the PC police would frown on that right before the soldiers are supposed to put a bunch of lead in them.
I’m not sure if Kilgore actually wore this patch or not, but I know he was air cav, so it makes me think of him. Plus he wore that yellow scarf – same color.
Come to think of it, the yellow scarf’s a little…uh…how would the PC people want me to put it…”don’t ask don’t tell.”
But when you go walking in a field with mortars going off all around you and you don’t give a crap, I’d say that earns you the right to wear whatever the hell you want.
